Phosphine is used safely at the industrial scale to serve a wide variety of markets
Phosphine (PH3) is produced by Syensqo at industrial scales and it's derivatives are readily available in the Strem Catalog for R&D quantities. This simple, yet challenging molecule provides the basis for a wide variety of materials that serve our world in numerous ways. PH3 can be reacted with radical initiators to create a variety of alkyl phosphines (Figure 1) [1,2]. While this chemistry is demanding, it is an effective route to many critical molecules in today's world.
The breadth of molecules that can be produced by this chemistry is truly staggering, and the molecules from PH3 continue to grow. Several commercially relevant phosphines that act as precursors to some of the world's most important catalyst building blocks are readily accessible through this type of chemistry (Figure 2).
Figure 3 demonstrates the variety of markets that are served from phosphine gas and its’ derivatives. The ability of phosphorus to act as a problem solver is limited only by our imagination and willingness to look beyond.
From phosphine, several properties of a molecule can be tailored such as viscosity, acidity, solubility, basicity, nucleophilicity and many more. This allows phosphorus technology to compete with “the other elements” for problem solving, and this goes beyond the traditional catalysis and life sciences applications where it is widely reported in the technical literature.
Several of the products listed are available from Syensqo and The Strem Catalog. If your molecule is missing, please reach out, we would be happy to discuss producing it!
**PH3 is flammable and toxic and should not be used without proper safety and detection equipment. If you are interested in derivatives of this product, please contact us.
